Jet Grouting
Patented reinforced jet grouted columns provide ground improvement and groundwater control for support of excavation at microtunneling shafts.
Project Overview:
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed over 1,000 overlapping jet grouted columns in silt and clay soils to construct groundwater cutoff walls, excavation support systems and excavation bottom seals, for an extensive sewer replacement project involving micro-tunneling technology. Over 10,000 lineal meters of columns were installed, including a patented system of reinforced jet grouted columns for excavation support at tunnel shaft locations. In addition, underpinning of several sensitive structures was completed to support existing foundations, where tunnels pass below structures. Underpinning was performed within operational structures in both tight access and low headroom areas.

Both double and single fluid jet grouting techniques were employed, and columns of 700 to 2500 millimeters in diameter were constructed. Unconfined compressive strength test results on soil-cement samples ranged from 30 to 55 kg/cm2.
