Single-fluid jet grout columns are installed within an active power plant in less than 7
feet of headroom.
Project Overview:
Layne GeoConstruction constructed 500 three-feet diameter, reinforced, single-fluid jet grout columns
for foundation support of a new selective catalytic reduction unit. The jet grout columns were installed
within a functioning steam power plant, in low headroom and limited access conditions.
The jet grout columns were installed to a depth of 40 feet. The reinforced jet grouted columns were used
to create column blocks for new foundation supports, as well as a secant column wall excavation support
system.
Load tests surpassed the project requirements, with test results registering 284 kips in compression and
140 kips in tension.
