Jet Grouting
Jet grouting provides underpinning and excavation support for the construction of a new elevator pit. |
Project Overview: |
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a system of single-fluid jet grout columns for excavation
support and underpinning to allow construction of a new elevator pit to a depth of 18 feet below grade.
A total of 64, three-feet diameter jet grout columns were installed to a depth of 35 feet through stiff
varved clay deposits.
The jet grout underpinning system was value engineered to eliminate low headroom work within the operating
courthouse. All jet grouting was performed from outside the building during daytime hours.
Jet grouting was also performed at two additional locations on the project, to underpin a wall of the
existing courthouse building, and for excavation support and utility protection along an adjacent roadway.
