Jet Grouting

Jet grouted columns provide soil stabilization for micro-tunneling operations
installing new 60-inch diameter sewer pipe.

Project Overview: |
|
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed single-fluid jet grouted columns to depths ranging from
12 to 25 feet within primarily beach sand deposits. Jet grouting provided soil stabilization for
micro-tunneling operations utilized to install a new 60-inch-diameter sewer pipe, and underpinning of
an existing 24-inch-diameter sewer line and various utilities. Jet grout treatment consisted of
constructing parallel rows of columns offset at 3 to 5 feet centers. Columns typically measured 3 feet
in diameter.
Although the jet grouting was performed in loose soils at shallow depths, the presence of numerous existing
utilities posed a monumental challenge. The location of the new sewer line was directly in-line with, and
beneath the existing utility corridor. Three-dimensional CADD models were created and used to determine
grout hole surface locations and setup angles. The modeling proved successful in avoiding utilities and
allowed for timely changes in the field for any unforeseen site conditions.
