High Mobility Grouting
Drilling and grouting on the dam crest during the harsh winter of 2008.
Project Overview:
The City of Lock Haven, PA awarded Layne GeoConstruction a contract to install a three-line, 1,200 foot long grout curtain to reduce seepage below the existing Warren Ohl Dam utilizing the best-value procurement process. A real-time computer grouting system was utilized to monitor and record the water pressure testing and grouting operations.

A multiple port sleeve pipe system was used with barrier bags to grout the difficult rock conditions present in the underlying bedrock with up to six balance stable grout mix designs formulated to deal with the variable geologic subsurface conditions. The Owner’s schedule required that the drilling and grouting work proceed uninterrupted through the winter season.

The scope of the project included 35,300 feet of drilling and Multiple Port Sleeve Piping (MPSP) grouting. A total of 17,600 cubic feet of grout were placed. Layne subcontracted the site work and access road construction.
