Compaction grouting is placed to stabilize karst soils beneath new parking garage at a hospital in
Allentown, PA.

|
Project Overview:
|
|
Layne GeoConstruction was contracted by The Vvhiting-Turner Contracting Company to stabilize the karst
geology beneath a new 4-story parking garage structure at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Layne injected a low
slump, low mobility grout to provide soil stabilization for the structure, which is underlain by residual
soils overlying generally poor quality limestone bedrock.
Due to the karstic conditions and the potential for future sinkhole development, the compaction grouting
program included a combination of deep and shallow compaction grout holes.
Layne GeoConstruction drilled over 290 holes averaging 45 feet, with depths ranging from about 10 to 200
feet. Over 2,100 cubic yards of low mobilily grout were placed.
