Real Time Monitoring
Low mobility grouting is performed to stabilize loose rock and fill open mine features.
Project Overview:
Layne GeoConstruction was contracted by APAC to install micropiles and perform ground improvement for a major highway interchange project outside of Joplin, MO. The interchange project was designed and constructed above an old abandoned mine in southwestern Missouri. Those conditions required the use of high mobility and low mobility grouting in conjunction with micropiles to support 20 bridge footings, 3 MSE walls and 3 box culverts on the project site.

The scope of work included over 17,000 meters of overburden and rock drilling; 220 micropiles (827 – 1,891 kN DWL); over 500 cubic meters of high mobility grout; and over 6,800 cubic meters of low mobility grout.

Real-time monitoring of all drilling and grouting parameters was conducted to provide more information as to in-situ soil characteristics and rock properties.
