Jet Grouting |
Jet grouted columns provide soil stabilization for slurry wall construction and excavation
support for roof-first tunnel construction.
Project Overview: |
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a system of reinforced jet grouted columns to provide
excavation support, and a continuous groundwater cutoff wall between operational AMTRAK and Massachusetts
Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) tracks, at the main rail station servicing Boston and northern New
England. The work was successfully completed in miscellaneous fill materials and organic soils without
disruption to the active rail station.
Jet grouting was also utilized to stabilize loose and unstable organic and fill soils in the rail yard
area, in advance of tunnel slurry wall excavation operations. The slurry wall and roof-first phases of
the project were successfully completed on schedule due to the soil stabilization using jet grouting.
