Jet Grouting
Drilling is performed along an embankment for soil stabilization in preparation for the installation of a new 60-inch diameter sanitary pipe.
Project Overview:
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a continuous arrayof jet grouted columns to provide soil stabilization for micro-tunneling operations installing a new 60-inch diameter sanitary pipe. Work was undertaken along the alignment of the micro-tunnel construction, on an embankment within a protected and environmentally sensitive bay, and parallel to a busy state road. Although the contract design specified soil mixing, project test sections included double and single-fluid jet grouting. Single-fluid jet grouting was chosen to mitigate environmental impacts.

A total of 1,965, 3 feet diameter jet grouted columns were installed. The average drill depth was 17 feet, with a jetting length of 11 feet, within very soft to soft bay mud and organic peaty soil conditions.
