Jet Grouting
|
|
Jet grouted columns provide ground improvement and underpinning for large diameter
micro-tunnel sewer replacement project in congested urban area.

Project Overview: |
|
|
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a system of jet grouted columns for ground improvement and
underpinning for a large diameter micro-tunnel sewer replacement project. Work was undertaken on a congested
arterial route, and performed from the pavement grade. Single-fluid jet grouting was utilized to reduced
impacts to the roadway, which allowed for immediate restoration of traffic flow upon completion of a series
of columns.
Jet grouting was performed along the alignment of the replacement sewer tunnel prior to the installation of
the 66-inch and 48-inch diameter micro-tunnels. The column configuration consisted of secant jet grouted
column rows for the full alignment of the pipe where organic soils were encountered. Each row consisted of
jet grout columns which were installed above the pipe crown level and extended below the pipe invert through
the organic materials to competent bearing soils, at approximately 35 feet deep. Jet grouting was also
performed at receiving and jacking pits to provide a continuous starter block of grout for the initial drive
of the micro-tunnel machines.
