Drilled Micropiles |
Low headroom drilling equipment installed drilled micropiles adjacent to active railway
operating with live caternary lines.
Project Overview: |
Layne GeoConstruction designed and installed 110 drilled micropiles for support of a new railroad
station. The drilled micropiles were installed to lengths of 45 to 60 feet, through silty sand and
into sand and gravel.
Design loads on the micropiles were 45 and 93 kips in compression and tension, respectively. Work
was conducted adjacent to live train tracks with a limited headroom drill rig, to permit adequate
separation between the live caternary lines and the drilling equipment.
