Project Overview: |
|
The new Maroon Creek Bridge on Highway 82 in Aspen, CO required seventy-two 8-inch diameter micropiles
to support the two abutments cut into steep slopes. The piles were designed to support 150 kips in
compression.
Layne GeoConstruction utilized duplex drilling methods to drill and case through about seventy feet of
difficult overburden consisting of cobbles and boulders. Reinforcing steel and pressure grouting provided
the main structural elements for the piles. Layne worked through adverse winter weather conditions and
navigated restricted access areas to complete the work.
