Drilled Micropiles |
Over 580 tension piles are installed using rotary
drilling techniques, with a specially designed and fabricated
LPX-2000. |
|
|
Project Overview: |
|
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a drilled tension pile system to tie-down of a highway
approach to an immersed tube tunnel roadway. The tension pile design was an alternative to the post-tensioned
anchor design provided by the project.
In excess of 580 tension piles were installed to resist hydrostatic forces acting on roadway at 35 feet below
sea level. Piles were drilled to depths of 100 to 125 feet through clay, glacial soils and 30 feet into bedrock.
The drilled tension pile design load is 315 tons per pile.
