Drilled Micropiles |
|
Drilled micropile foundation system supports new elevated train tracks and ancillary walk-way structures.
|
|
|
Project Overview: |
|
Layne GeoConstruction designed and constructed a drilled micropile system to support upgrades to the Frankford
Street elevated train line. Work was undertaken in the residential, northeast section of Philadelphia. The new
train station is being constructed at the Frankford Street bus depot, to facilitate pedestrian traffic to and
from the bus system.
Drilled micropiles were installed in low headroom conditions around the existing track structure to support
foundations of the new track alignment. Micropile design capacities were 100 ton compressive load, and 40 ton
tensile load. Drilled micropiles were also installed around the perimeter of the new train station to support
walkway structures. Drilled micropiles were installed through loose urban fill and bonded in both weathered
and competent schist bedrock.
