Drilled Micropiles |
Drilled micropiles support new foundations for addition to an historic building.
Project Overview: |
Layne GeoConstruction designed and installed (123) - 9 inch diameter drilled micropile foundations for an
addition to the historic New York State Court of Appeals Building in Albany, NY.
Micropiles were installed through stiff to soft clays, and founded in glacial till and rock at depths of
120 feet below grade. Drilled micropile capacities were 90 tons in compression and micropile load testing
was successfully performed to 180 tons.
The majority of the micropiles were a result of a value engineering proposal which substituted approximately
4 micropiles for each of the 18 drilled shaft foundations original designed. The value engineering proposal
provided a 10% savings to the owner on overall project foundation costs.
