Project Overview: |
|
Seismicity in the Charleston area is dominated by the New Madrid seismic source zone, the
most active source zone in central and eastern United States. The 120 acre construction
site is located in the Mississippi River flood plains. The building design was required to
conform to Federal Emergency Management Authority guidelines 273 and 274.
Layne GeoConstruction improved and stabilized 13 acres of building area, to facilitate
construction of 5 housing units, an administration building and 8 additional support
buildings. A total of 7,900 vibro compaction/stone column points were completed prior to
commencement of the correctional facility construction. The ground improvement program was
completed on time and within budget.
