Project Overview: |
|
US Gypsum Company constructed a manufacturing facility on a property adjacent to the Columbia River, and
comprised of reclaimed sand fill and dredged spoil placed over the last 70 years. Ground improvement was
necessary to improve the bearing capacity, and to mitigate potential ground settlement and lateral spreading
into the river area during a major seismic event in the Pacific Northwest.
The ground treatment area measured approximately 20 acres. Half of the building area required vibro
compaction and the other half vibro replacement stone columns. A total of 10,500 vibro compaction/stone column
points were installed, consuming 158,000 tons of stone backfill.
